Throwing it back to some of my recent “strictly no sugar” snacks. As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve officially retired from the world of sweets.
The main reason—well, 99% of it—is my teeth. After dealing with multiple cavities, a root canal, and a crown that cost me so much I practically cried through my toes, I made a vow to become enemies with sugar. I’m doing everything I can to preserve these expensive teeth for as long as possible, which means my snacks have taken a bit of a salty, savory turn to keep my mouth busy without causing another dental bill.
1. Instant oats in plain milk. It’s simple, sugar-free, and actually pretty satisfying when you just need something to chew on.
2. Flourless Cashew Nut Cake. I used oats instead of flour, added eggs and milk, and swapped sugar for a bit of salt. Honestly? It was a bit of a surprise. It came out pretty dense, and the smell of the oats somehow completely bullied the cashew scent into submission. Not exactly the gourmet experience I was hoping for, but we live and learn. 😂
3. Soft Savory Cookies. Again, no sugar, just salt and oats. The yellow one is cashew—a bit blander and tougher than expected. But the brown one? Total game changer. It’s a shiitake mushroom cookie, and I’m not kidding when I say it tastes exactly like eating mushroom fried rice. Absolutely delicious.
It’s definitely a different kind of snacking life, but considering the alternative is another trip to the dentist to pay off their next vacation, I’ll stick to my mushroom cookies!
